NEW MILFORD, New Jersey. Several homes were evacuated Friday after rain caused the Hackensack River to rise and flood an area in New Milford, New Jersey.
How Many People Are Rescue?
Twelve people were rescued after high water filled the streets.

On Harvard Street, the height reached 2 to 3 feet.
What Police Said?
Police Chief Kieran Dillon said that it was a voluntary evacuation, and although the flooding was severe, many people chose to wait it out in their homes. Rescuers went door to door waist-deep in water and used rowboats to rescue people from their partially flooded homes and cars near River Road.
"It's horrible. I don't know how they still haven't fixed the problem,"
Stache House barbershop
said Leonardo Salas, owner of the Stache House barbershop. "It's so inconvenient for everyone. Salas arrived to find his barbershop barely spared, with floodwaters running inches from his front door. “Hopefully it’s not, because it usually rises and then falls again. I hope this is the worst now,” he said. The police chief said the flooding occurred after water from the Oradell Reservoir entered the Hackensack River, which then peaked. Most of the flooding was contained on Columbia and Harvard streets near River Edge Avenue.
“We don't really expect him to go higher. Thank God the rain has stopped,”
New Milford Police Chief Brian Clancy said.
“But we are not yet quite sure when it will fall. It all depends on the Oradell reservoir.
